Mario: The Music Box Remastered is an adventure puzzle game wrapped in a visual novel format. You follow Mario as he enters a crumbling mansion near the Mushroom Kingdom, lured by rumors and a mysterious music box that starts playing on its own. The game blends point-and-click exploration with timed puzzle solving, as shifting hallways and lurking threats force you to think quickly. Each decision impacts how Mario uncovers the home’s dark history, with branching paths revealing secrets about its former residents. The game’s eerie atmosphere and layered storytelling stand out, backed by a 82/100 Metacritic score. Players praise the way environmental clues tie into the narrative, though some note pacing dips in quieter sections. Available on PC since 2022, it’s a self-contained mystery that mixes classic Mario problem-solving with a gothic twist. The music box itself becomes a recurring puzzle element, its melodies often signaling incoming dangers or hidden passages.
Mario has heard rumors of an abandoned home that has been close to the Mushroom Kingdom for over a century. That people who go inside it never come back. Mario and Princess Peach were supposed to investigate the strange place but Mario decided to go alone. Inside the home he finds a strange music box that was playing by itself. Little did he know that a "harmless" music box would've caused the home to try to eat him alive.
