Megamari: Marisa no Yabou is a side scrolling run and gunner where you play as Marisa Kirisame and Alice Margatroid. You jump shoot and collect abilities across levels packed with enemies and environmental hazards. Each stage lets you grab a new weapon or skill to use in later fights. The goal is simple: stop Patchouli Knowledge’s anti-theft scheme and steal her books. The action leans into classic 2D platformer rhythms with bullet hell sections and boss battles that test your upgrades. Made by Twilight Frontier the team behind Immaterial and Missing Power this free fan project has a cult following in the Touhou community. It’s a fast paced romp for players familiar with the source material though the chaotic energy and tight controls make it approachable for shooter fans. Released in 2006 it still runs smoothly on modern PCs and its retro aesthetic feels intentionally old school. Let the book heist begin.

Storyline

Tired of Marisa (and occasionally Alice) constantly 'borrowing' books from her library, Patchouli Knowledge has hatched a plan to stop the incessant theft. Stashing her book collection deep inside a mechanized fortress filled with traps, she enlists the help of several other Touhou characters, all of whom have their own bones to pick with Marisa for one reason or another. With the help of Alice, Marisa sets out to defeat the other girls and gain new powers from them before making a climactic raid on Patchouli's castle to bring home another big haul of books.
