Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible is a turn-based RPG from 1992 where you play El, a warrior fighting to protect the planet’s mystical life force from corruption. The game tasks you with recruiting monsters to your cause, using them as battle summons or combining them with others to create new creatures. Combat follows a grid-based system, blending strategy with resource management as you navigate a world filled with ancient ruins and ancient threats. The story is minimal but atmospheric, framed by cryptic text about Gaia’s power and humanity’s fragile connection to it. This Game Boy title stands out for its early fusion of monster collection and party customization, concepts that would later define major titles in the megaten series. Despite the handheld’s limitations, the game’s system of fusing creatures feels surprisingly deep for its time. It has a small but dedicated following among retro RPG fans, often cited as a hidden gem of early 90s Japanese game design.
Long before human beings existed... Telepathy, Teleportation, Telekinesis... Power that only Gods could harness. Gods named this power Gaia. This is the beginning of tragedy...
