About

Melpool Land is a 1995 overhead brawler where two fighters clash in tight arenas. Each of the five characters wields two weapons that can be swapped mid-fight to attack or block. Matches are won by either depleting an opponent’s health or pushing them off the stage. A key twist is damaging their weapon meters, leaving them reliant on brute force. Arenas feature hazards like damaging tiles and bottomless pits but lack power-ups or special moves. The setup revolves around a tournament hosted by a goddess offering the winner a prize of their choosing. The game’s charm lies in its simplicity and local multiplayer mode. Each character has distinct playstyles and single-player endings if you finish the mode with them. While largely forgotten, its quirky mechanics and competitive potential have earned it a cult following among retro fighting fans. Released exclusively on Japan’s PC-98 platform, it remains a curious relic of early 90s arcade-style combat.

Storyline

The guardian angel of Melpool Land, Hestia, arranges a tournament to see who the toughest person in Melpool Land is. Five characters from different backgrounds decide to enter the tournament for their own reasons. The winner of the tournament will not only have their legend solidified for the rest of history, but they will also get anything they desire from Hestia. The combatants are Rainey, Jeese, Robbit, Anja & Merkle, and Hekkun.
