Metal Dungeon is a turn-based RPG where you lead a team of customizable cyborgs through 100 randomly generated dungeon levels. Build a squad of up to 40 Enforcers, each with distinct roles like Fencer, Caster, Analyzer, Striker, or Broader. Fencers swing swords and hammers, Casters equip spell chips for magic, and Analyzers track enemy health using futuristic firearms. Each class has quirks, Strikers can one-shot weak foes, while Broaders gain balanced skills at a slow pace. The first 10 levels form the story-driven campaign, but the rest exist for grinding and testing builds. Bosses require strategy since you can’t level up inside the dungeon, forcing players to retreat, improve, and retry. The game’s clunky mechanics and underdeveloped plot led to poor reviews, but its over-the-top magic-punk setting and grind-heavy gameplay earned it a niche following. Players fixate on its 90+ unlockable advanced classes, achieved by collecting rare chips, and the challenge of mastering party synergies. Despite its 2002 release date and dated visuals, Metal Dungeon’s blend of character customization and permadeath-style progression keeps it a curiosity for fans of old-school tactical RPGs.
