Metal Slug XX is a fast-paced side-scrolling shooter from SNK. Players lead the Peregrine Falcons team through seven levels spanning deserts, mountains, and lava fields. The game blends run-and-gun action with vehicle sections and melee attacks, letting you toss grenades, ride tanks, and slash foes. Single-player missions offer replay value with optional objectives and POW rescue tallies. Local and online co-op let two players team up to dismantle hordes of goofy enemies using pistols, shotguns, and over-the-top explosives. This version adds a practice mode for mastering mechanics and introduces Leona Heidern as a playable character with her own skills. The hand-drawn environments pop with chaotic detail, and controls remain crisp despite the chaos. While originally released in 2010, it still runs smoothly on modern PC and PlayStation 4. Longtime fans appreciate the retro feel and expanded co-op, while newcomers get a streamlined entry into the series’ chaotic charm.
