You play a US soldier storming enemy camps in Vietnam to rescue trapped POWs. Six stages take you from ruined fields to fortified rail yards, each crammed with patrols and traps. Fight through waves of foes using a trusty knife, or grab limited-time firepower like flamethrowers and grenades by dropping enemy soldiers. Team up with a friend in two-player mode, with your colors swapped to green or blue. Every level ends with a boss fight against machine gun emplacements, but the final stage adds tension, losing all hostages means instant mission failure. The game’s simplicity hides sharp design. Weapon swapping adds strategy without overwhelming, and the two-player mode keeps matches lively. While the 1989 release date shows in its stripped-down visuals, the core loop of slashing through enemies and managing scarce ammo still clicks. Konami’s follow-up to Green Beret, it tweaks its predecessor’s formula with better weapon management and riskier endgame stakes. A straightforward brawler that leans into its grindhouse charm.
