Mirai Shinwa Jarvas tasks you with stopping a future warlord who hijacks a time machine to rewrite history. As a lone hero, your goal is to build an army by recruiting allies and seizing enemy fortresses. Combat and exploration unfold on top-down maps with basic RPG mechanics. You gain experience by defeating foes but must return to a guild to level up, your character remains static until you reach a base. Towns are sparse and often confusing to navigate, with little guidance for new players. The game’s reputation precedes it. Many cite its disorienting lack of direction at the start and repetitive grind of collecting experience points. Still, its turn-based strategy elements and focus on base-building stand out for retro RPG fans. Released in 1987 for the Family Computer, it’s a forgotten relic of early Japanese role-playing games. Small player bases online note the guild system and castle sieges as surprisingly engaging, but be prepared for a steep learning curve and minimal handholding.
