Miskatonic Diaries follows Tomato Chain a girl who stays in her room and navigates surreal dreamscapes to gather strange objects. The game leans into quiet mystery with minimal dialogue letting players piece together fragments of Tomato’s thoughts and the shifting environments she encounters. Exploration drives the experience as you wander through abstract rooms and eerie outdoor spaces each with their own odd rules and visual quirks. The game’s charm lies in its deadpan tone and minimalist design which lets imagination fill the gaps. While short it leans into the same lo-fi experimental vibe that made Yume Nikki a cult hit. Players who enjoy slow-burn puzzles and weird art will find a few hours of oddball charm here. Its 2017 release as a jam game shows in the rough edges but the core loop of wandering and collecting remains satisfyingly strange.
