Miyako is a story-driven visual novel that mixes supernatural intrigue with relationship dynamics. You play as a girl named Sayuki who wakes with no memory, only to learn she’s been summoned as a shikigami by Abeno Seimei, a powerful onmyoji. Bound to his will, she’s thrust into a role that splits her time between mundane tasks, like mediating feuding couples and delivering love letters, and battling demons. The narrative leans into tense power dynamics, with Seimei’s ultimatum, accept her fate or vanish, casting a shadow over every decision. Gameplay focuses on dialogue and branching choices, with a cast of characters tied to the capital’s political and mystical undercurrents. The game stands out for its blend of romance and dark fantasy, though its niche premise may polarize. With a single "Mind-Bending" community vote, it suggests a title that challenges expectations more than it follows standard otome tropes. Its 2010 release on PSP positions it as a forgotten oddity, balancing quiet emotional beats with sudden bursts of action. The lack of Western localization data makes it a curiosity, but fans of morally gray narratives might find its mix of duty and desire compelling.
Our story starts when a girl finds herself summoned by an Onmiyouji who claims that she is his shikigami “created” to do his bidding. The girl has no recollection of who she is but she feels like she was a human and her name is Sayuki. Sadly her new master, Abeno Seimei, is pretty demanding and tells her that if she doesn’t accept her fate as a shikigami, she will disappear. Seimei then brings her to Izumi at the capital to work, to do things like console quarraling married couples or deliver love letters. Unfortunately some of the jobs she has to do also require her to fight demons. Will she be able to get used to her new life as Shikigami #3?
