About

Moeru! Onii-san is a 1989 Famicom adventure game where players take control of Kenichi, a wild boy raised in the mountains. The story follows his return to civilization and the challenges of adapting to normal life. Gameplay involves navigating levels with varied objectives, battling themed bosses, and switching between characters like Hidou or Rocky for different abilities. The core loop balances platforming, puzzle-solving, and light RPG elements, with a focus on rescuing Yukie from a dragon antagonist. Later stages introduce team-based combat and item management. The game's western release as Circus Caper drastically altered its identity. While retaining the core adventure structure, it swapped Kenichi's mountain narrative for a circus setting, removed RPG mechanics, and reconfigured stage order. Visuals and music received full rework to match the new theme, though original level design DNA remains. With a small cult following among Famicom collectors, it remains notable for its dual identities - one rooted in manga-inspired storytelling, the other in 80s localization experimentation.

Storyline

When Kenichi Kokuho was a small boy, he was lost in the mountains and never found. However, unknown to anyone, Kenichi has been brought up by his foster father in the wild. When Kenichi becomes 15 years old, his foster father tells him the truth about his background. As he finds out, Kenichi decides to go to a civilized society where his parents live. Everything Kenichi experiences in the town is a series of surprise and wonder. His family is delighted to see their son alive, but shocked at the fact that he has become wild and different from other children. And now, his new life is about to begin. His wild attitude and physical toughness cause various problems in the town. Kenichi has his own way to handle things, but it is too different for the most people to understand what he is up to. Can he get used to life in the town?
