MoleZ is a chaotic arcade shooter where 2 to 4 players battle as moles on a single DOS computer. Armed with tools ranging from basic shovels to explosive rocket launchers, you dig tunnels and blast opponents into tiny pieces. The last mole standing or the one with the most kills takes the victory. Simple mechanics give way to frantic, strategic backstabbing as you navigate shifting terrain and pick the perfect moment to attack. Though largely forgotten outside Finland, MoleZ pioneered a niche genre of subterranean combat games. Its 1997 release under a donation model and later 1999 freeware version helped it gain a cult following. The game's influence is clear, titles like Liero directly trace their roots to MoleZ's blend of digging and shooting. With its fast-paced action and low barrier to entry, it remains a curious footnote in early multiplayer game history.
