Momotaro Densetsu Gaiden shifts focus from the main hero to three supporting characters in this 1991 RPG for Game Boy. Each character leads a separate adventure with distinct goals and party members. One campaign follows a traditional hero quest, another has a demon kingdom princess investigating a coup, and the third stars a thief redistributing stolen wealth to the poor. All three stick to the series' core mechanics of exploring a top-down world map and battling enemies in grid-based turn play. The game stands out for its segmented structure, letting players choose which story to tackle first. Each path has its own progression and challenges, making it feel like three mini-RPGs in one. Though the Game Boy version is the earliest release, the portable design and self-contained missions keep it tight. The inclusion of monster alliances and moral themes in the demon campaign adds unexpected depth for a handheld title from the early '90s.
