Monaco GP is a top-down racing game from 1979 that puts you in control of a car speeding through a looping circuit. The goal is simple: stay on track and avoid crashing while racing against the clock. The arcade version uses a basic control setup with a joystick and accelerator, emphasizing quick reflexes over complex mechanics. A follow up called Pro Monaco GP arrived the next year, adding tighter handling and more competitive elements. The game stood out for its variety of cabinet styles including a sit-down setup with a more engaging layout. Though early by today's standards, its straightforward design and fast paced action made it a staple in arcades during its time. The later SG-1000 home port in 1983 kept its core loop intact, offering a taste of arcade racing to players without leaving home.
