About

Mondschein follows Fynn, an elderly man recounting his past as an astronaut stranded on an alien world. After his ship is destroyed mid-mission, he crash-lands and teams up with Ki, a local girl, to track down the mythical moon dwellers. The story unfolds through dialogue and exploration, with frequent interruptions from haunting nightmares that tie into the larger mystery. Combat is turn-based and methodical, requiring strategic use of skills and items. Side quests add depth, often revealing fragments of the planet’s lore or offering optional challenges. The game’s strongest points are its atmospheric storytelling and deliberate pacing. Despite its age, the hand-drawn visuals and expressive character animations hold up, giving it a distinct charm. Community ratings average around 8.5/10, with praise for the emotional core and interconnected narrative threads. The blend of sci-fi and folklore elements keeps the world feeling cohesive, even as the 2003 release date shows in some technical limitations. Shorter than most RPGs, it clocks in at roughly 15, 20 hours, making it a digestible but memorable experience.

Storyline

Old Fynn tells of his life. He always wanted to go to the stars. When the opportunity arose, he joined the alliance for a space mission. But on this mission, the ship is attacked and destroyed by an unknown force. In a rescue capsule Fynn crashes on a strange planet and is found by the girl Ki. Here the adventure begins. With the help of his new girlfriend Ki, he goes in search of the so-called people from the moon, always pursued by terrible nightmares. Moonlight has its own combat system and some nice animations. Furthermore, there are a number of side quests that make the game even more interesting. But also with the rest the game makes an excellent impression.
