"Monster Bash has aged surprisingly well, and the HD version helps make the game accessible and preserves its identity. It’s not especially long, but there’s a ton of content here should you choose to seek it out. The developers clearly had a soft spot for this charming little horror game, and it’s not hard to see why. There’s even a new secret level, which is a wonderful addition if you can find it. If you’ve never played a Shareware title or one of Apogee’s early games, this is a great place to start."

Monster Bass turns fishing into a battle royale. Players cast lines in a world where fish fight back, using rods to wrestle giant bass that snap and lunge like rabid creatures. The goal is simple: pick baits, hook targets, and yank them from the water before they escape. Combat feels chaotic but repetitive, with each catch requiring timing and precision. The game mixes family-friendly themes with a weird twist of aquatic horror, as townsfolk whisper about zombie-like fish terrorizing the lake. The HD version keeps the original’s quirky charm intact, though its short runtime and repetitive mechanics show its age. User reviews split between nostalgia for the concept and frustration with execution, average scores hover around 6.0, with some praising its accessibility for casual players. Critics note it holds up better than expected, particularly for fans of niche sports games. At its best, Monster Bass offers a bizarre, lighthearted take on fishing that’s more camp than classic.
