"New mechanics, monsters and a gorgeous setting make Monster Hunter Rise a new high-water mark for the franchise. The Wirebug, Switch Skills, Palamute and carefully thought-out monsters shake things up enough to make the game feel fresh for hunters who have previously spent thousands of hours with the series, and while the package could be slightly intimidating for newcomers, it's arguably the ideal place to get started if you're serious about getting into the franchise. And, with a peerless four-player multiplayer experience, the new Rampage quests are a blast. After spending some serious time with the game, it's very easy to say that Monster Hunter Rise is one of the strongest entries into the franchise to date, and another stone-cold classic for the Nintendo Switch."

Monster Hunter Rise: Deluxe Edition adds a few extra weapons and armor to the base game which already has players slinging wire traps and dodging tail swipes in a loop of monster takedowns. Fight solo or with up to three others using a wide cast of playable characters each with their own move sets. The action leans into fast-paced combat where timing your evades and counterattacks keeps things balanced between frustration and satisfaction. The Deluxe Kit tacks on five new monsters and matching gear sets which extends the already lengthy campaign. While the base game holds up well on its own the added content has kept players engaged for hundreds of extra hours. Most reviews highlight the smooth combat mechanics and the way each weapon feels distinct without feeling overpowered. Switch owners especially appreciate the portability for quick sessions of monster baiting and scorching.
