Motor City Online lets you build and race customized classic cars in an online-only competition. You select vehicles from the 1960s and 1970s, tweak engines and suspensions, then face off against players worldwide in events ranging from street sprints to circuit races. The game's focus on mechanical customization and head-to-head multiplayer was ahead of its time, but the experience was often hindered by unreliable servers and frequent bugs. Despite launching in 2001 with high expectations, technical issues plagued the game throughout its two-year lifespan. The service shut down in 2003, leaving behind a small but dedicated group of players. While its online infrastructure couldn't keep up with demand, Motor City Online's car customization depth influenced later racing titles. Nostalgic players still point to its ambitious vision, even if the execution fell short.
