My Hero is a side-scrolling brawler from Coreland and Sega that tasks you with wading through waves of enemies in a straightforward but punishing format. Released in 1985, it plays like a raw prototype for later beat 'em ups, simple controls, repetitive level layouts, and a focus on brute force. The challenge spikes unpredictably, with certain screens gaining a reputation for making even seasoned players break a sweat. Co-op mode lets two players team up, though the game offers little in the way of respites or power-ups to ease the grind. The title’s reputation as an early example of the genre’s harsh difficulty persists, with retro players often citing its infamous later stages as a test of endurance. While the 1986 Sega Master System port brought it to home consoles, the lack of refinements or variety meant it stayed a niche pick. Still, its straightforward combat and no-frills approach have earned it a cult following among fans of old-school arcade toughness.
