Nasu-8 is a frantic one-button platformer where you dodge and leap to catch falling eggplants. Control a stick-figure runner bouncing across a tightrope, flinching from hazards that send the fruit plummeting. Miss too many and you’re done for, literally, if the summary’s cryptic threats are to be believed. It’s a stripped-down but twitchy experience, built around timing and reflexes. The simple graphics and punishing difficulty make it feel like a forgotten late-night arcade cabinet. The game’s charm comes from its absurd premise and minimalist design. Originally a tiny minigame in the freeware title Yume Nikki, Nasu-8 expands the concept with smoother controls and extra polish. While there’s no narrative or polish to speak of, the short playthroughs keep it addictive for quick bursts of chaos. Released publicly in December 2023 after a three-year overhaul, it’s a love letter to niche arcade nostalgia with just enough bite to stay memorable.
