Natural Selection splits players into two teams for chaotic 8v8 battles. One side controls a squad of humans using guns and gadgets while the other directs a hive of alien creatures from a top-down view. Your human team must plant bombs or destroy alien nests while the alien player manages creep growth and spawns new units. Each match forces constant adaptation as roles shift between direct combat and strategic planning. The game has remained active for over 20 years with regular updates extending its lifespan well beyond typical mod projects. Community-driven content and competitive scenes keep it fresh despite its age. Over 100,000 players still log in monthly according to Steam stats. The sequel released in 2012 with improved graphics but many veterans stick to the original for its tight mechanics and raw intensity.
