Nemesis is a side-scrolling shooter that tasks you with blasting through waves of enemies while collecting power-ups to upgrade your ship. Played on the Game Boy, it features tight controls and a straightforward approach to action, you move left to right, fire weapons, and dodge obstacles in a fast-paced loop. Though it shares roots with the Gradius series, this title stands apart with its own level designs and enemy patterns. The game supports both solo play and split-screen multiplayer, letting two players team up to survive the increasingly chaotic battles. This game originally wore a different name in later releases, eventually rebranded as Gradius in the Konami GB Collection. Despite its connection to a bigger franchise, Nemesis feels distinct, offering a leaner, more self-contained experience compared to its successors. Its 1990 release date makes it one of the earlier titles in the Gradius lineage, and its multiplayer feature remains a rare treat for the era. The sequel, Nemesis II, arrived the following year, but this first entry holds its own as a brisk and aggressive shooter.
Nemesis (ネメシス Nemeshisu) is a 1990 shoot 'em up video game developed and published by Konami for the Game Boy, and part of the Gradius series, released for the Game Boy in 1990. Similar to Taito's Sagaia, this game uses a once-international title for an earlier game in the series to represent a mostly original project. A sequel, Nemesis II, was released for the same platform in 1991. Both games were later re-released through the Konami GB Collection series, where they are titled Gradius and Gradius II instead.
