Neocron 2: Beyond Dome of York is a 2004 PC-based MMO that mixes first-person shooting with role-playing in a post-apocalyptic setting. Players pick sides between two warring megacities separated by irradiated wastelands and join factions like military forces or hacker collectives. Class options range from brute fighters to psi-powered monks and netrunners who infiltrate systems through a digital network called Hacknet. The open world lets you tackle story missions, sabotage opponents in player-versus-player combat, or explore ruins and battle mutated creatures. Vehicle combat and traversal add variety to the sandbox, whether you're piloting a hoverbike across toxic zones or hijacking enemy strongholds. The game stands out for its detailed cyberpunk universe and flexible progression. Hacknet lets skilled players map out hidden paths or launch virtual assaults, while the contrast between Neocron’s rigid authoritarianism and Dome of York’s chaotic anarchy creates fertile ground for conflict. Though its 2004 release date means it lacks modern polish, veterans praise the depth of its systems and the freedom to shape your role in the war. The setting’s grim vision of the 28th century, full of irradiated beasts and decaying tech, still resonates for fans of gritty sci-fi survival.
In the middle of the 28th century massive warfare and reckless pollution have brought the life on earth to the brink of extinction. The planet does not offer its last inhabitants more than toxic and radiated wastelands and anything which has not died already turned into an abnormal and horrifying mutation. The remains of humanity have sealed themselves into last bastions of life and technology. Neocron - a city surrounded by massive walls and regulated by the strict laws of the CityAdmin and their Copbots - tries to stay alive in this dying world. Meanwhile, an old enemy rises again: The almost anarchistic Dome of York, Neocron's opponent in the Ceres wars, shows up again. Is a new war inevitable?
