Next Up Hero is a 2D action game where every death fuels the next player's run. You fight through procedurally generated levels as one of nine heroes, each with distinct weapons like rocket launchers or bongo drums. When you die your character leaves behind an Echo that the next player can resurrect as an AI ally. This pass-the-controller co-op lets friends take turns building a team of Echoes to tackle tougher challenges. Progress relies on mastering enemy abilities and combining them into custom loadouts. The focus is on short sessions where failure is part of the strategy. The game’s Community Continue mode emphasizes teamwork over solo play with asynchronous co-op. Monthly Champions Trials add competitive goals, while a Mad Libs style journal tracks achievements for rewards. Developed with input from early beta tests the final version refines ideas from its Steam Early Access phase. Launching on multiple platforms including Switch and Mac it offers flexible local or online play. Created by Digital Continue the studio behind Scribblenauts it releases June 28 with ongoing updates planned.
