The new skating animations emphasize realism while the Cinemotion mode uses tight camera angles and music to highlight key plays. Commentary from Bob Cole and Harry Neale keeps the atmosphere lively throughout. The game arrived September 12 2006 as the first NHL title on PlayStation 3. Featuring San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton on the box art it solidified 2K Sports’ early 3D console presence. Though not a ratings powerhouse its PS3 debut and improved motion features marked a step forward for hockey sims during the seventh gen console transition.
