Night Walker is a visual novel adventure built on a 2001 PC remake of a 1990s detective mystery. You play as Tatsuhiko Shibafuji, a reclusive private investigator with supernatural abilities who takes odd jobs fighting monstrous "Breed" creatures. The story unfolds through static scenes and dialogue, tracking his investigation into a disappearance at an all-girls school. Choices and exploration reveal clues about hidden rooms, mysterious artifacts, and connections between students. The gameplay loops between conversing with characters and piecing together a narrative driven by eerie supernatural threats. This version modernizes the original PC-98 title with 256-color visuals while keeping its core quirks intact. Character designs were adjusted to align closer with anime adaptations, most noticeably with Shidō’s purple hair and Yayoi’s pink locks. Though the story leans into late-90s mystery tropes, fans of slow-burn investigations and retro anime aesthetics might find its blend of schoolyard secrets and occult intrigue nostalgic. The game’s cult following remains small but dedicated, with many praising its moody atmosphere despite dated presentation.
Monsters, called "Breed", threaten the people of Japan. Tatsuhiko Shibafuji, the proprietor and sole employee of the Shibafuji Detective Agency, possesses great powers that can be used against the "Breed." However, this guy only accepts those cases that attract him. Due to his nighttime activities, people within his industry call him the "Night Walker." Tatsuhiko receives a request from a private sponsor, Yayoi Matsunaga, who is an inspector on the police force. Our hero sets out to inspect a suspiciously related incident at Saint Michael All-Girls Institute. He comes in contact with one of the friends of the victim, Kazumi Asano. Our hero and Riho Yamazaki find a secret underground room beneath the chapel. Here, they find a pendant, which had belonged to Kazumi. The situation is much more serious that he had expected.
