Ninja Princess is a top-down shooter where you play a royal in disguise fighting through waves of enemies. The story has you as a princess pretending to be a ninja to thwart the tyrant Gyokuro. The action unfolds in scrolling stages filled with patrols and bosses. You can play solo or team up for co-op action. Originally released in arcades in late 1985, it later moved to home systems including the MSX and SG-1000. The game keeps its core loop simple but addictive with responsive controls and escalating difficulty. The Japanese ports added some visual polish while maintaining the arcade feel. A Western Master System version called The Ninja changed character names and tweaked the plot but kept the same gameplay loop. Players appreciate the tight shooting mechanics and the novelty of a princess in a ninja outfit. With its 1980s charm and straightforward design, it remains a cult pick for retro fans. The multiplayer mode especially stands out as a rare feature in early 80s shooters.
