Nosferatu is a side scrolling platformer where you play Kyle, navigating a large castle to rescue Erin from a vampire's grip. Developed by SETA in 1994, it drops you in a dungeon with a straightforward goal: climb upward through increasingly deadly rooms. Each level is a gauntlet of spikes, bottomless pits, and hostile creatures. You’ll jump, dash, and bash your way past enemies while avoiding environmental hazards. The controls are tight but demanding, requiring precise timing to survive the castle’s lethal design. What makes Nosferatu stick out is its relentless difficulty and moody 90s aesthetics. The castle’s gothic vibe is conveyed through dimly lit corridors and eerie sound design, even if the visuals are basic by modern standards. While the story is simple, the game’s punishing challenge and lack of hand holding create a nostalgic test of skill. Longtime fans of classic platformers might appreciate its old school approach, though modern players could find it frustrating.
The game follows the story of a young man named Kyle who has his girlfriend Erin sequestered with the vampire Nosferatu; he has the objective of obtaining their blood. Kyle then goes up to the castle where Nosferatu lurks with intent to rescue Erin, but getting there, he discovers that the huge place is full of traps and violent creatures. The game starts with Kyle being trapped in the dungeon of the castle, the player must escape from there and walk through the castle until they reach the tower where Erin and Nosferatu are.
