About

Oasis Road casts you as a group of kids navigating a desert world where ancient cities crumble under shifting sands. Explore ruins, chart new paths, and collect artifacts to survive in a landscape shaped by scarcity and decay. Combat follows a turn-based rhythm as you encounter threats across a map that evolves with your discoveries. Early choices let you pick from 18 starting characters, each with distinct traits, and rename them to suit your playstyle. The world feels alive with decay, where every route you carve leaves a mark. The game’s charm lies in its blend of exploration and incremental progress. Players appreciate the freedom to shape their journey through item finds, which subtly alter gameplay outcomes. While its 1999 release date shows in some dated visuals, the focus on resource management and world-building holds up. A niche title with a dedicated following, it’s praised for its atmospheric storytelling and the way its sand-swept setting mirrors the characters’ struggles. Shorter sessions work best, but the open-ended structure rewards curiosity.

Storyline

The history of Oasis Road begins with the loss of a paradise protected by the tree of life, and a god of destruction known as Vrtra's Flame. Some 3000 years of civilization is gradually changing the continent to a frozen wasteland. A large influx of people has migrated to the warmer south, where farmers settle down to grow crops. Less and less people can be found in cities as they lean closer to ruin. Industry becomes obsolete, while industrial skills are lost along with it. Contact between cities is scant, and those cities who are not self-sufficient are buried in the sand. In essence, mankind is working its way to the path of extinction.
