Obitus is a first-person RPG with action sequences that mix exploration and combat. You navigate dark, shifting environments using smooth 8-directional movement, a rarity in 1991 games, giving it a pseudo-3D fluidity. Combat breaks into side-scrolling bow fights or dungeon crawls with directional controls, blending resource management with twitchy dodging. The world feels claustrophobic and eerie, with puzzles and creature interactions adding depth to the push-pull of survival. Its standout feature is the seamless camera movement, which made it feel ahead of its time on SNES and DOS. While the combat can feel repetitive, the environmental storytelling and hybrid mechanics earned it cult praise for pushing early 90s genre boundaries. A niche title that still pops up in retro discussions for its bold design choices.
You're in the depths of your own worst nightmare... but this time there's no waking up. Lost and alone in a dangerous and alien world you must discover where you are, how you got here... and how you are going to get out! In a frantic search of the unfamiliar land you explore amazing forests, mines and underground complexes collecting objects and interacting with indigenous creatures. Re-emerging into daylight you race along perfect parallax action scenes, dispatching enemies as you battle even deeper into the unknown. Impelling RPG with more than a dash of hack and slash.
