One True Hero is a 3D platformer with beat-em-up combat and light RPG elements. You play as a reluctant farmer thrust into a role he’s ill-equipped for. The town is collapsing, a tyrant lurks, and everyone expects a legendary savior, except this one’s a bumbling rookie. You’ll leap across crumbling ruins, hack through hordes of goons, and fumble through a story where every fantasy trope feels recycled. The controls are tight for platforming and brawling, though the camera can get tricky in tight spaces. The game’s charm comes from its self-aware humor and over-the-top absurdity. It pokes fun at formulaic hero narratives while delivering straightforward action. With a 72% on Metacritic, it’s a solid but uneven pick for fans of lighthearted brawlers. Available on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Switch since October 2022. The sinking town gimmick adds a time-pressure twist to exploration, though some puzzles feel rushed. Best played with humor about the whole “chosen one” farce.

Storyline

An evil tyrant... A magic sword... A young farmer turned Hero... It's a tale we've heard thousands of times before and in the kingdom of Genericia things like that happen every other week, which makes it hard for a young farmer to be taken seriously when he tries to save a town that's mysteriously sinking into the ground, even if he's the only one capable of saving them!
