About

Ooe is a psychological horror visual novel set on a secluded 1950s Japanese island. You play Osaki, a detective-for-hire who infiltrates a memorial service for a dead actress, only to find himself trapped when a murder occurs and the ferry home vanishes. The nine attendees are all hiding secrets, and suspicion quickly turns to paranoia as alliances shift and bodies pile up. Players navigate branching dialogue to uncover motives while managing relationships that blur the line between romance and manipulation. The game's strength lies in its tangled web of character dynamics. All nine guests, including the first victim, are potential love interests, each with distinct routes mixing mystery-solving and romantic choices. Progress in one story unlocks new options elsewhere, creating a layered puzzle where trust is scarce and betrayal inevitable. With its atmospheric setting and complex moral dilemmas, Ooe offers a tense blend of deduction and emotional intrigue. ADELTA’s previous work on Hashihime of the Old Book Town and UUUltraC hints at a knack for dark, character-driven narratives.

Storyline

A memorial service for the second anniversary of the actress Ann Ooe's death is being held on Ooejima, a remote island even further from Tokyo than Hachijo-jima. Our protagonist, Osaki, is employed by a detective agency, and he receives a most curious request——to attend the service in the guise of his client. Tension hangs between the mourners, and it turns out that none of them have so much as seen the event's host. But things only go from bad to worse when the ferry set to return them to the mainland never shows up... and the guests discover the servant who had been attending them murdered. Tormented by distrust and paranoia, the mourners search for the murderer only leading to further and further tragedy. The guests must unravel the mysteries of their shared pasts and the untimely death of Ann Ooe in this classic closed circle Showa horror mystery. All nine mourners are guilty, and they're all romancable (including the initial murder victim). Each route offers both mystery and romance, and more potential love interests and choices open up as you progress through the routes.
