Operation Body Count drops you into a 1994 shooter where you play a member of an elite anti-terrorist unit. Your mission is to storm a U.N. tower seized by foreign militants, starting with a crawl through sewers teeming with giant rats and mutant creatures. The game’s 40 levels task you with eliminating set numbers of enemies per floor before advancing via elevators or stairs. You wield an arsenal including a shotgun, Uzi, and a grenade launcher that doubles as a wall-smashing rocket launcher. The gameplay loops around combat and progression, with each level feeling like a contained firefight. What sticks out is the early inclusion of controllable squadmates you can command to follow or roam freely, and a destructible environment that lets you ignite entire rooms with a flamethrower. Fire spreads unpredictably, turning levels into hazards as flammable objects burst into flames. You can also switch control between surviving squad members, letting you retry failed sections without losing progress. Its textured floors and ceilings added visual depth for the era, with some maps mixing multiple patterns. While not a commercial hit, its mechanics like squad management and environmental destruction influenced later shooters.
