About Our Burial Dolls Remastered

Our Burial Dolls Remastered is a narrative-driven indie RPG set in the secluded mountain village of Mitono. Developed by ROSEVERTE and released on January 28, 2026, it blends adventure and simulation elements with a focus on a haunting ritual called Warawa-Tomurai. The story follows sixth-graders Yuuma and Honoka as their lives diverge after participating in a mysterious ceremony, figuring out dark secrets tied to their community. The remastered edition sharpens visuals and atmosphere, emphasizing its eerie tone. Available on PlayStation 4/5, PC, Switch, Linux, and Mac, it’s a single-player experience with branching choices that shape the girls’ fates.

Gameplay

The game alternates between village exploration and tense, dialogue-heavy scenes. Players control Yuuma and Honoka separately, navigating Mitono’s environments, abandoned homes, dense forests, and the ritual’s sanctum, to uncover clues. Resource management factors in, as survival items and relationships with villagers influence progress. The simulation aspect involves managing daily tasks, while RPG elements include skill checks during critical moments. Combat is minimal, replaced by psychological tension and environmental puzzles. Sessions often involve backtracking to new areas unlocked by story reveals, with a runtime of 8, 12 hours depending on exploration.

What Players Think

PlayPile community ratings average 4.3/5, with 68% completing the base story. Critics praise its unsettling atmosphere but note pacing issues in the second act. Average playtime is 10.5 hours, with 32% logging over 15. Community moods split between “creeped out” (41%) and “moved” (29%), while 18% cite “frustrating dialogue options.” Achievement completion stands at 74%, with 12% earning the rare “Unseen Path” trophy for discovering all hidden lore. Reviews highlight the emotional weight of choices but criticize occasional technical hiccups on PC.

PlayPile's Take

Our Burial Dolls Remastered is a strong pick for fans of slow-burn, story-focused RPGs. The $29.99 price tag feels fair for the atmospheric experience and 12-hour base campaign, though side content extends value. Achievements add replayability, but the linear narrative may frustrate. Its strengths lie in emotional depth and setting, but uneven pacing holds it back from being a must-play. Worth a try if you enjoy games like Oxenfree or The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Storyline

In Mitono, a remote mountain village with only a handful of households, every child must undergo a mysterious ritual known as Warawa-Tomurai. Sixth-graders Yuuma and Honoka take part in the ceremony just before the village begins to disperse. Yuuma’s family soon moves to the city, while Honoka remains behind due to unforeseen circumstances. Separated, the two begin to uncover the secrets behind the ritual. Within the sanctum where something inhuman resides, the children are drawn in—toward a painful fate.
