Outer Wilds dropped in May 2019 from Mobius Digital and Annapurna Interactive. It is an adventure puzzle game set on a solar system stuck in a twenty-two-minute time loop. You play as the newest recruit for Outer Wilds Ventures, based out of Timber Hearth. The title launched on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and later hit Switch and Series X|S consoles. This isn't about building a base or fighting hordes of enemies. It is about flying a small shuttle to eight distinct planets to solve an ancient mystery left by a vanished civilization. You need to gather clues from the past while the universe tries to end itself every twenty-two minutes.

Gameplay

You start in your small ship and must master its flight model before anything else. The controls feel floaty but responsive once you get used to orbital mechanics. Every run lasts exactly twenty-two minutes before a supernova destroys everything. You fly to planets like the sand-swallowed Giant's Deep or the volcanic Brittle Hollow to find ancient alien writings. Your main tools are a scanner for signals and a map that fills in as you visit locations. You can also use gadgets to probe ruins or just roast marshmallows over a campfire. Exploration drives the experience since you cannot unlock new areas without solving puzzles from previous loops. Each cycle teaches you more about what is happening so you can attempt better routes later.

Players describe the vibe as wholesome and story-driven with four votes each for those categories.
