Outernauts is a strategy game where you build a space colony and lead tactical battles. Insomniac Games crafted this social RPG, letting you manage resources, recruit units, and team up with friends for missions. Initially a Flash game on Facebook, it later moved to iOS and web browsers. The focus was on base building and real-time conflicts but the game stopped running in 2016. Insomniac’s first social game and first non-Sony project, Outernauts launched in an open beta July 2012. It shut down on Facebook by early 2014 and closed fully in February 2016. While it had a dedicated strategy loop and social features, its short lifespan means it’s now a relic. Still, it shows the studio’s attempt to reach new audiences beyond their usual platforms.
