About

Oxygen is a survival city builder where you manage a fragile settlement in a world suffocating under toxic air. Your population depends on the Oxygen Center, a machine that generates breathable air by splitting underground water with electricity. But keeping it running means juggling coal-dependent power grids while investing in solar and wind alternatives. Environmental hazards like lava floods, crushing frosts, and gas storms force constant adaptation. Every decision impacts resource chains, from housing to food production, as you balance immediate survival against long-term sustainability. The game’s strength lies in its tight feedback loops and escalating tension. Natural disasters feel unpredictable but fair, and the push to transition from dirty energy to clean creates a compelling strategic rhythm. Community early access reviews highlight its depth without overwhelm, though some note the learning curve steepens quickly. With 15+ unique events and no multiplayer, it’s a solitary challenge for players who enjoy methodical problem-solving over combat. The setting’s scientific grounding adds weight to every pipeline and power line you place.

Storyline

A natural disaster hit us and brought humanity to the verge of extinction. Only a few survived because of "Large Igneous Provinces", these are volcanoes that don't explode but huge cracks open in the Earth's crust and lava just starts bubbling out, oozing across the landscape, releasing tons of toxic gases. The most dangerous thing about an igneous province is that it can keep up the oozing for centuries. With the wind effect, these gases spread all over the world and changed the atmospheric composition. One of these toxic magmatic gases reduced the oxygen level in the air. Sadly, there’s only little oxygen left in the world. Before it's too late for humanity, the Oxygen Center is invented. It generates oxygen by electrolysis of underground water, and the required electricity is generated by using coal but you should be slowly moving away from coal towards sustainable sources of energy. This is the only hope for us...
