You play as an adventurer navigating a maze of platforms connected by ladders. Your goal is to climb upward and collect treasure chests guarded by the game’s namesake octopus. Jumping is your only active move besides movement, used to bridge gaps between platforms. Watch out for wandering octopi and unpredictable clouds of poison gas that can block your path. Each level resets after you grab a chest, then you repeat the climb in increasingly tricky layouts. Pac-Kong stands out for its stripped-down focus on vertical platforming and timing. The lack of complex mechanics makes it feel brisk compared to later games, but the random enemy movement and narrow ledges keep it tense. As a 1983 Atari 2600 title, it’s a relic of early RPG experimentation, blending resource management with action. Players who enjoy retro challenges often note its brisk, punishing loops and pixel-perfect collisions.
