About

Paladin's Quest throws you into a fantasy world where spellcasting relies on health points, not magic. You play as Chezni, a kid who accidentally unleashes a destructive force. The game mixes turn-based combat with quiz-like challenges to solve puzzles and progress. Characters can’t heal with spells, instead you buy limited-use potions and buffs in towns. Every spell drains your health bar and each fighter has an elemental specialty, letting you stack effects in battles. The lack of a traditional MP system makes every decision feel high-stakes. Elemental combos add depth to fights, and the story’s simple hero’s journey contrasts with the mechanical creativity. While the 1992 release date shows in some dated design choices, the core loop of exploring, battling, and solving trivia-driven puzzles still feels distinct. A small but vocal group of retro RPG fans praise its bold mechanics over 30 years later.

Storyline

The game centers around a boy named Chezni who, on a dare, activates an ancient machine called Dal Gren and in doing so releases a being of immense power and evil. As a result the magic school is destroyed and the headmaster of the school orders Chezni to destroy Dal Gren at whatever cost before it destroys the world. During his travels he meets a girl named Midia, very much like himself, who wishes to help him on his quest, and numerous other mercenaries that come to aid Chezni. The main antagonist is a young dictator named Zaygos, who wants to use the Dal Gren for his own nefarious purposes.
