Paperents by Hell0 Dirtty Games is a horror-tinged visual novel that follows 10-year-old Liam as he navigates the creeping dread of his new home. The game unfolds through static scenes and dialogue, with Liam trapped in his room as strange sounds and shifting adult behavior amplify the unease. Simple navigation controls let you explore limited environments while uncovering fragmented clues about the family’s figuring out reality. The lack of combat or action mechanics sharpens the focus on psychological tension and narrative ambiguity. The game’s strength lies in its quiet dread and minimalist design. Sparse visuals and sudden audio cues amplify the sense of helplessness, while the parents’ gradual transformation from ordinary to unhinged feels unsettlingly gradual. Though the story sticks to familiar horror tropes, the execution leans into restraint, letting silence and suggestion do the work.
