About

Parliament of Hell 1796 is a horror-comedy adventure game where you play Matthew, a young poet dragged into 18th-century English politics. Forced into Parliament by his dad’s bribe, you navigate the chaotic world of tiny-town governance while avoiding expulsion. Gameplay blends dialogue decisions with environmental puzzles, as you exploit court protocols, forge documents, and maybe summon a demon to escape the bureaucratic nightmare. The absurdity of representing a village with three voters fuels the game’s dark wit. The title thrives on its niche premise: gothic horror colliding with satirical politics. Every interaction drips with dry humor, like backroom deals in a building more haunted by red tape than ghosts. The puzzles often require bending historical rules, and the pacing tightens as deadlines loom. Though it lacks mainstream recognition, players on forums praise its clever writing and inventive use of period-specific absurdity, with some calling it a “hysterical indictment of hereditary power.”

Storyline

Young gay poet Matthew just wants to be left alone to write his gothic horror stories. His Father wants to stop his fancies, and so does what any 18th century Father would: he buys Matthew a seat in the Houses of Parliament through bribery. Forced to serve as a Tory MP for the tiny village of Hindon (voting population 3) Matthew’s life becomes Worse Than Hell. Determined to escape, you must help him find any way possible to get kicked out of Parliament. Race against Big Ben to get disinherited and discharged.
