A visual novel adventure set in a sleepy summer town, Path of Mystery: A Brush with Death follows a group of psychology students retracing a cold case from three decades prior. Players navigate shifting timelines between the present day and the past to figure out the bizarre murder of a reclusive painter. The story unfolds across 10 structured episodes plus a cryptic bonus chapter, with choices and dialogue options influencing how secrets connect. Fully voiced performances bring emotional weight to tense interrogations and quiet character moments. The game’s strength lies in its layered storytelling, weaving personal histories with forensic clues. Voice actors include recognizable faces from anime and gaming circles, adding polish to tense revelations. Though it shares DNA with episodic mystery series, its compact 10-episode format avoids bloat. Early playtests on Nintendo Switch highlight the accessibility of its branching paths without overwhelming newcomers.
