Perish is a co-op first-person shooter where you and up to three friends battle through waves of enemies on the dark gritty landscapes of Purgatory. Each kill leaves behind a gold-tinged corpse that you can sell to greedy priests for gear upgrades. The goal is to grind through hordes of foes take down tough bosses and use your earnings to unlock access to Elysium, a heavenly realm that promises cosmic secrets but demands every drop of your skill to reach. The game stands out with its punishing loop of death and progression. Every failed attempt sends you back to the starting gate forcing you to adapt strategies or face endless retries. With roots in Greek mythology and a focus on chaotic combat it’s a gritty action-packed ride. Released in early 2023 by ITEM42 and published by HandyGames it’s available on PS4 PS5 PC and Xbox. Players note its challenging but rewarding gameplay though be prepared for a steep learning curve.

Storyline

You are amyetri, a soul that failed to perform the Orphic rites and therefore condemned to spend eternity trapped in a corporeal body. The only way you can achieve salvation is to suffer the Twelve Tasks of Purgatory. By undertaking these trials, you will relive the suffering of the Olympian god Dionysus. If you come out the other end unscathed, you will have proven yourself worthy of the company of Orpheus, who will finally permit you to enter Elysium at his everlasting side. If you fail the Twelve Tasks of Purgatory, you will end up back at the Pantheon, forced to undertake the trials from scratch again.
