Phenomeno: Mitsurugi Yoishi wa Kowagaranai is a PC-based visual novel from Nitro Plus that leans into psychological horror and eerie storytelling. You follow Yamada Nagito, a college student who moves into an ultra-cheap rental home only to encounter unsettling occurrences. Each night brings creaking sounds and cryptic symbols like the number 7 carved into walls. The story unfolds through branching choices and dialogue, blending everyday tension with occult themes as Yamada investigates his strange new reality. The game’s strength lies in its slow-burn atmosphere and unsettling tone, adapted from a serialized horror novel. While it lacks mainstream popularity, its niche following praises the tense narrative and layered character dynamics. With a 2012 release date and minimal updates, it remains a cult pick for fans of cerebral horror and visual novels that prioritize mood over action.
Yamada Nagito, a university student living away from home, needing a cheap place to live he finds out about a mysterious “House that grants wishes” on the market for a ridiculously low rent; he snaps up the house and starts living there. Afew nights in he starts hearing strange creaking noises. Each and every night he’s assaulted by these torturous noises. The last straw is when he finds the number 7 carved into the wall, as if counting down to something. Yamada having an interest in the occult seeks help from a website he frequently visits: “Ikaigabuchi”, which specialises in occult topics.
