Inspired by the life and works of Franz Kafka, it follows a protagonist arrested without explanation, now navigating a maze of unfamiliar faces and lingering guilt. Players piece together a fractured narrative through dialogue that spirals into absurdity, environmental puzzles that reflect fractured logic, and a tone steeped in quiet despair. The story intertwines themes of alienation and unresolved family dynamics, all wrapped in a structure that feels both claustrophobic and surreal. Created with input from Kafka scholars, the game adapts three of his works into its core narrative. Its script leans heavily into the writer’s trademark blend of bleak humor and philosophical weight, earning early praise for its faithful yet fresh interpretation. With PC and Mac support, it offers a single-player journey that lingers in the mind, less a game about solving mysteries, and more about living inside them.

Storyline

Although you did nothing wrong, you were arrested one morning. You arrived for work, but you don’t recognize your assistants. And your upbringing left you with a pervasive sense of guilt. Welcome to Playing Kafka, an adventure about the alienation of modern society as well as unresolved family issues. The game adapts three works of the famously absurdist writer and was created with leading Kafka experts.
