Pop 'n Magic is a side scrolling platformer where players use a wand to trap enemies in color coded bubbles. Each foe must be hurled into differently colored bubbles to avoid freeing them. Levels are filled with hazards and tight spaces that test timing and precision. Collecting and flinging enemies becomes a puzzle of placement and momentum as screens progress. The game's color matching mechanic adds a strategic layer rarely seen in 1990s action titles. Released in 1992 on the Turbografx 16 and PC Engine CD, it features simple visuals with effective enemy designs. While not widely known at launch, it now holds a small but dedicated following. Developer Riot and publisher Telenet Japan crafted a title that balances challenge with clever level design.
