Popeye 3: WrestleCrazy turns the sailor staple into a side-scrolling brawler where you control Popeye in an intergalactic wrestling showdown. The game plays like a pixelated grappling lesson with simple but responsive controls. Move Popeye around the ring using a joystick and fire button to execute moves. Grapples require rapid joystick waggling to fling opponents to the mat. Once they’re down pinning them secures the win. The split screen lets two players collide in real time making it a chaotic local multiplayer option. The game’s charm lies in its absurd premise: Popeye defending Earth by wrestling alien invaders in a cosmic arena. While the story is straight out of a 90s kids’ comic the gameplay feels oddly modern for 1992. The Amiga and C64 versions run smoothly with colorful sprite work that holds up better than most retro fighters. A small but vocal group of retro wrestling fans still debate whether the alien opponent designs are more ridiculous or brilliant.

Storyline

Our Hero Popeye has been kidnapped by the evil KRAGGS who wish to conquer the universe. To find out which planets are vulnerable, an intergalactic wrestling contest has been arranged. Popeye has been chosen to represent Earth, and must wrestle against 5 different vicious aliens to save our world from the KRAGGS! The wrestling match is on a desolate asteroid at the edge of the galaxy. Popeye faces his first of five unearthly opponents in front of a hostile alien crowd. Can you help Popeye beat his wrestling opponents and save the Earth, or will our world be over run by the maurauding KRAGGS!!
