Power Lords is a fast paced arcade shooter where you pilot a space sled through a dangerous volcano on an artificial planetoid. Navigate dodging falling lava rocks and attacks from a laser eyed serpent while using your joystick to move and fire lasers. The goal is to survive as long as possible by destroying obstacles and avoiding hazards that can destroy your ship. Scoring comes from hitting targets like erupting lava or open doors to disrupt gravity fields. The game keeps track of your current score and high score in real time with initials for the top scorer. The challenge of Power Lords comes from balancing survival with precision shooting. Hitting a door for 45 points might save you from a gravity trap but leaves you exposed to incoming rocks. Surviving an eruption gives a huge 1000 point reward but requires perfect timing. The simple mechanics and escalating difficulty create a test of reflexes. Though the pixelated visuals and basic audio feel like a relic of 1983, the core gameplay remains addictive for short bursts. Players who grew up with Odyssey 2 might find extra charm in its retro sci fi aesthetic and straightforward scoring system.
