Primal Rage II is a fighting game that never saw a full release. Atari Games started work on this sequel in 1996 before canceling it in 1997 as arcade popularity faded. The story follows avatars of the gods who must battle each other to free their trapped deities from the villain Necrosan. Players control these avatars in single player or multiplayer modes to reach the final boss and unlock an ending. Only one working arcade cabinet is known to exist at the Galloping Ghost Arcade in Illinois. Thanks to emulation efforts by YouTube user GruntZilla94, you can actually play this lost title on PC today. The game runs fully functional even though it has no official online community data or ratings available yet. It stands out as a rare glimpse into what a late nineties fighting game could have been with its god-themed roster. Playing the emulation feels like uncovering a hidden piece of gaming history that most people missed when the project got scrapped. This version lets you see the final boss fight and character designs without needing to travel to an arcade in Brookfield.
The game would feature avatars of the gods as playable characters. Necrosan trapped the gods so they couldn't fight him, so the avatars had to save the gods by fighting each other to reach Necrosan. If the player were to beat Necrosan then they would get an ending.
