Profanation is a 1987 Amstrad CPC shooter that drops you in a devil-worshipping castle full of crawling nasties. You play a lone adventurer armed with a rifle, tasked with finding each level's exit door while looting treasure and blasting enemies. Slime blobs ooze, bats swoop, and flesh-eating insects scuttle across pixelated hallways. Every door you unlock pushes you deeper into the maze, but one hit from an enemy sends you back to your last checkpoint with fewer lives to spare. No respawns, no second chances, just you, your trigger finger, and the devil's architecture. Retro fans might appreciate the no-frills action and the way the game punishes careless shooting. With its clunky sprite work and abrupt difficulty spikes, it feels like an 80s arcade port that never was. The randomly placed checkpoints force you to memorize layouts, adding a layer of strategy to the bullet-dodging. Despite its age, the tension of running out of lives and racing to beat level timers keeps things engaging. A grindy, throwback shooter for those who miss the days of dying permanently.
